About First Pull
First Pull exists for exactly one reader: the person who has never made espresso at home and doesn't know where to start. That's who every guide, quiz, and calculator here is written for.
Why we started
Most espresso content on the internet assumes you already speak the language — dose, yield, channeling, pre-infusion — or it assumes you're ready to spend $2,000. Beginners get lost between forum threads full of jargon and buying guides that are really just ad catalogs.
We built First Pull to be the missing first chapter: plain-English explanations, honest budget guidance, and step-by-step tutorials that start from zero. If you've ever thought "everyone else seems to just get this," this site is for you.
How we test and recommend gear
Our buying guides are written from hands-on testing, not spec sheets. When we evaluate a machine, we run it the way a beginner would: unboxing, the first confusing setup, the first sour shots, the first cleaning cycle. We note where manuals are unclear, where the learning curve bites, and what actually matters at each price point.
We don't accept payment for placement in our guides. Manufacturers don't get to preview or approve our reviews.
How we make money

What we're not
